WHO WE ARE

Our Team

We are the Metro Phoenix chapter of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), a nationwide ministry. The following people form our core leadership team, or ‘council’, as we call it. We’re here to serve you!

  • Dr. Chadwick has had more than 45 years’ experience as a family physician, an administrator guiding policy in the medical community, and a medical educator. She is currently serving as the Special Advisor for Strategic Program Initiatives at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and is helping the Texas Christian University School of Medicine as it works toward full accreditation. From 2018 to 2019 she was the Vice Provost for the developing health science campus of Creighton University in Phoenix as well as the Executive Director of the Creighton University Health Education Alliance. Prior to that she served as the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs and Accreditation at the Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine as it sought preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Dr. Chadwick served as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, having started the clinical campus there in 1992. She helped to transition that campus from a clinical branch campus to a separately accredited medical school under the University of Arizona. Over her career she has worked with the deans of schools of nursing, pharmacy, physician assistants, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work and nutrition to integrate learning and clinical opportunities into an interprofessional model.

In 1992, Dr. Chadwick became the first female president of the Arizona Medical Association and worked with the Arizona Legislature, the public and the media on behalf of physicians in the state. She also has served as president of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians, as past delegation chair for Arizona to the American Medical Association, past delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates, and as assistant director of the residency in family medicine at Scottsdale Healthcare. Dr. Chadwick has also served on the Scottsdale Healthcare (now HonorHealth) Board of Directors.

She has intermittently chaired as well as served on the Board of Directors of Phoenix Seminary for over 18 years and periodically teaches bioethics in the Doctor of Ministry program there. Having received a master’s degree in bioethics from Trinity International University in 2006, she continues to teach bioethics at various community, church and political organizations.

For many years, Dr. Chadwick worked regularly at the St. Vincent de Paul Medical Clinic. She has been on several medical mission trips over the years. Outside of the medical arena, she has enjoyed teaching Bible study classes at church and to community organizations.

Dr. Chadwick was honored as Arizona's 1995 Family Physician of the year by the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians in recognition of her contributions to the specialty of family practice. Although no longer actively practicing medicine, she has practiced in every type of structure from solo, private practice to multi-specialty group practice. She emphasized the importance of compassion, communication and quality as her priorities in patient-centered care and emphasized that model in teaching medical students and residents.

Many other honors and awards have been given to Dr. Chadwick, including the University of Arizona College of Medicine Alumna of the Year in 2006; the Health Care Heroes Award presented by The Business Journal, 2003; The Commission on the Status of Women 2003 Vision Award; Fred Mitten Medal for Leadership presented by the Maricopa County Medical Society, 1993; and Who's Who in Healthcare in Arizona presented by The Business Journal, 1990.

Dr. Chadwick has dedicated her professional life to quality, compassionate patient care and over the last 28 years to building that passion into the culture and curriculum of medical schools in both Phoenix and Fort Worth.

  • Dr. Barney Davis, mostly Texas-raised but with significant practice and life activities in Maryland and South Carolina, moved to Phoenix in 2011. He is a general psychiatrist whose general interests have been geriatric psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and psychopharmacology.

But, for most of the past 20+ years, his full-time work has been in the provision of “member care”, psychiatric consultation and care to members of the international missionary community, often on-site as he travels frequently to remote areas. When home in Phoenix, he volunteers at The Neighborhood Christian Clinic.

Hobbies include part ownership in a C172 general aviation airplane. Widowed for some years, he relishes opportunities to be with daughters and grandkids in the Phoenix area and in Texas.

Most operable scripture verse seen routinely in action as he deals with situations of trauma, stress, and the effects of geopolitical disruption: Genesis 50:20, as a reminder that God allows the worst of situations to then use them redemptively for the care of others and promotion of the gospel.

  • Dr. Rick Kratche is a family physician who works for Dignity Health in Gilbert, AZ where he is developing a new FM residency program at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

Rick grew up in Cleveland, OH and returned there after his undergrad and graduate training where he practiced FM for 25 yrs. He pioneered FM at the Cleveland Clinic, serving in a variety of leadership and educational roles in addition to his primary care practice. He then relocated to Phoenix in 2015 to become Iora Health's Arizona Medical Director prior to taking the Dignity Health Program Director position in late 2020.

As a medical student at The Ohio State University, Rick first became involved in CMDA (CMS in those days). Along with 3 of his classmates, they became officers of CMS, leading the campus organization during their Med2 year. Other than a brief hiatus, he's been a member ever since. He enjoys teaching, mentoring, and has been on medical mission trips to Mexico and Honduras several times.

He and his wife Robin have two adult children, one son-in-law and a grand-dog. Now empty nesters, Rick and Robin enjoy serving in their church, traveling as much as possible, reading, skiing, snorkeling, camping, and bicycling.

Favorite scripture: Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you." It's a constant reminder to chase after God and not the things of this world.

  • As one of the co-founders of The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, Dr. Lorentsen has served on the Board of Directors since 1995. Since 1999, Dr. Lorentsen has served as the Clinic’s Medical Director. Although he remains involved in quality assurance, medical education, strategic planning and fundraising, Dr. Lorentsen most enjoys his time spent in direct patient care.

Prior to his work at The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, Dr. Lorentsen was the Chief of Internal Medicine at Luke Air Force Base. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He received his MD from Loyola University of Chicago in 1990, and his Bachelor of Science from Gordon College in 1985. Dr. Matsumoto and her family moved to Phoenix in 1996 and she spent the next eight years as a senior partner in a large medical practice. In 2004, she founded TLC Pediatrics and fulfilled her dream of practicing in a small, intimate setting where patient care comes first. Over the years she has seen the practice grow enormously and has been recognized by Phoenix Magazine as a “Top Doc.”

She and her husband, ophthalmologist Dr. Bert Matsumoto, have six children. In her time away from the office, she leads medical trips to Africa and volunteers in medical organizations such as Global Health Outreach, Project Cure, and Feed My Starving Children.

  • The Stoudts serve as CMDA Staff for Metro Phoenix, providing vision, leadership and connection for the local Christian healthcare community alongside the local council. They also invest in students and couples through coaching, counseling and discipleship.

Bryan and Sharon are graduates of Lafayette College. Bryan is also a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary (MDiv).

Originally from Philadelphia, they moved to Phoenix – for some inexplicable reason – in 2020 during the height of the pandemic and hottest summer on record.

God has given them four fantastic children, including one with special needs (autism). Bryan enjoys staying active, roasting coffee and writing, while Sharon loves all things French and counseling women at their church. Together, they enjoy traveling and rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, which has been (apart from winning Super Bowl LII) a peculiar source of sanctification.

  • Hi, I'm Dr. Andrew Wong, born and raised in a family of first generation immigrants in Central Phoenix and an all-around Arizona Sports fan (Go Suns!). I am a Family Medicine physician and I wear multiple hats including Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix (Bear Down!). I also serve as the faculty advisor for the UofA CMDA Chapter there. I am also part time faculty at the Dignity East Valley Family Medicine Residency and serve on the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) for Samaritan's Purse. In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, exercising, traveling, finding delicious places to eat, and watching sports.

I did my residency training in Family Medicine at Via Christi in Wichita, Kansas where I received training in full scope practice including high risk obstetrics, surgical obstetrics, endoscopy, hospital procedures and point of care ultrasound. I am passionate about teaching and educating students and residents and I believe the combination of full scope family medicine with obstetrics and alternative models of care such as Direct Primary Care (DPC) are key to helping solve both the healthcare shortage and healthcare problems in our country.

However, all of that is secondary to my life mission to live out the Gospel through healthcare among the poor and marginalized and to equip others to do likewise (Isaiah 58:6-14). Since a young age, God has given me a passion and calling to work with the underserved and poor, specifically in an urban inner city setting. My hope is to be able to inspire and encourage students and others to consider doing likewise. I have spent my residency years and most of my career living and/or working among the underserved being able to combine both ministry and medicine to live out that calling. One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 because it illustrates how Paul was able to adapt to the community he was in, so that he could more effectively share the love of Jesus to those around him and I try to use that same approach in all that I do.

Would love to hear what God has given you a heart for and to see how I can be of encouragement to you through our local CMDA chapter, so feel free to reach out!
